Developing Global Internship Networks – Reflections from the International Internship Conference in Minneapolis
From 16 to 18 June 2025, the International Internship Conference took place in Minneapolis, USA. The event brought together academic institutions, employers, and internship coordinators from around the world to exchange ideas and best practices related to work-integrated learning.
The programme opened with pre-conference workshops and company visits, offering participants direct insights into internship structures from both the employer’s perspective and that of current interns, followed by a lively Q&A session.
Over the course of the conference, panel discussions and breakout sessions focused on the evolving role of internships in the context of artificial intelligence and humanity. The topics addressed included the future of work, ethical considerations, and how internship models are adapting to global developments in technology and society. The programme was complemented by evening networking events that encouraged informal exchange and international collaboration.
The final highlight was the symbolic handover of the conference torch to next year’s hosts. The 2026 International Internship Conference will take place in Madrid from 9 to 11 June.
