Energy Management
TH Rosenheim launches an energy management system in accordance with DIN ISO 50001
TH Rosenheim is taking another important step towards a sustainable campus and greater energy efficiency: at the end of 2025, a project was launched to introduce a university-wide energy management system (EnMS) in accordance with DIN ISO 50001, with the aim of systematically recording, analysing and optimising energy consumption.
In January 2026, the first expert training session took place for the energy management team at Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences. Together with an external consultant, the university management, technical management, energy management officers, and the procurement and controlling departments, the foundations for the new system were laid. The aim is to use energy more efficiently, make processes more environmentally friendly, reduce CO₂ emissions and achieve greater transparency – all as part of a continuous improvement process.
An energy management system offers far more than just savings on energy costs: it helps companies assess energy-related regulatory requirements, creates transparent and efficient processes, and defines clear lines of responsibility – including in the procurement and management of technical systems.
Data on electricity, heating, cooling and fuels is collected and analysed in order to identify potential savings and implement measures. This results in clearly defined responsibilities, a better basis for decision-making and measurable progress towards climate protection and sustainability.
In doing so, Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences is not only committing itself to complying with the Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG), but is also setting an example for sustainable operations at universities and within the region.
Energy management systems provide transparency: we can see when and where energy is being used – and that makes it easier to make targeted savings. When you can see where improvements can be made, you want to implement them.
Outlook: Over the coming months, we will carry out an energy assessment of the main energy consumers, plan a measurement and metering strategy, and implement further measures. Systematic documentation and regular internal audits will ensure that the university continuously improves its energy performance.
Please email any suggestions for improvements regarding energy management to the Energy Management Officer at Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences.
