• The potential analysis identified savings opportunities that are technically and economically feasible.

• Based on the potential analysis, a range of scenarios was developed:

  • The reference scenario describes the future development of TH Rosenheim’s GHG balance without the implementation of specific climate protection measures.

  • The climate protection scenario, on the other hand, illustrates the development of the GHG balance taking climate protection measures into account.

• The Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences’ overall goal is to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. In addition, greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced by 65 per cent by 2030 compared with 2019 levels. These targets relate to Scope 1 and 2 emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
• With these objectives, Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences is essentially aligning itself with the targets set by the Bavarian State Government and is implementing the German Federal Government’s climate neutrality target ahead of schedule.

Achieving these targets is conditional upon the necessary funding being made available by the relevant authorities.

Furthermore:

• Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences aims to source certified green electricity from 2024 onwards and,
• has set itself the goal of further raising awareness among the university community regarding climate protection and sustainability, and of integrating these issues even more closely into everyday university life,
• in pursuing these objectives, TH Rosenheim is guided by the principle: avoid emissions, reduce emissions and offset emissions that cannot be avoided or reduced.

The climate protection strategy was drawn up with the broad involvement of the relevant stakeholders, in particular members of the university community:

• Presentation of the project at various meetings (university management, extended university management, staff meeting, student representatives, faculties, departments, etc.)
• Survey on mobility and IT usage in December 2021
• Workshop with interested members of the university community in July 2022

To realise the potential identified, a wide range of just under 100 measures was drawn up for the various areas of action and compiled into a catalogue. These will serve as a guide for the follow-up project.

In addition, a communication strategy has been drawn up. The aim of this is to raise awareness of the climate protection plan and its contents amongst the relevant stakeholders. Effective and targeted communication and public relations work are therefore intended to inform members of the university community and motivate them to implement the plan.

A strategy for ensuring the long-term integration of climate protection has been drawn up to embed this issue within TH Rosenheim. In addition, the monitoring framework serves to continuously assess the effectiveness of the measures put in place and to ensure the targeted implementation of the climate protection strategy.

The follow-up project to implement the climate protection strategy has been approved and will run from 1 February 2023 to 31 July 2026.
