I am involved in a research project in which I am working on producing oriented strand board (OSB) from beech. I am particularly impressed by the considerable practical content of the project – from felling trees to machining and producing the boards. I chose this subject because research into alternative species of tree for use in wood material engineering is becoming increasingly important. This enables me to make a small contribution towards the future resource-efficient and sustainable use of our forests, and thus also to climate protection.
