Leave of absence
Students may apply for leave of absence for good reason. This leave is always for a full semester. The student remains a member of the university during his/her leave, but the leave period is not included in the course duration.
Classic reasons for leave of absence include:
- illness
- maternity and parental leave
- semesters abroad
- Further reasons for leave can be found in the enrolment, re-registration and de-registration regulations
To apply for a leave of absence, the application must be submitted as early as possible, but no later than 5 weeks after the semester start via the → Online Service Centre . A leave of absence can be granted for a maximum of two semesters.
Please note: Only resit examinations may be taken during leave of absence. Only in certain special cases, e.g. regarding individuals on maternity or parental leave, do exceptions apply to rules concerning deadlines for resits during leave of absence.
Important: Re-registration is necessary even for a semester of leave. In this case, the student will only be charged the Student Union fee.
