Engineering and Management

This course introduces basic programming concepts, including control flows, data types, and functions. Moreover, students will learn the value of data-oriented programming and its role in decision-making across applications.

Theory of strength and practical usage of strength calcuation as part of a shaft design.

Students will be able to post simple business transactions and interpret a balance sheet based on German accounting principles (HGB).

Students are enabled to understand the main classes of materials (metallic, ceramic, and polymer), their structure, their properties, mechanisms to modify the properties, and how to select a material for a given application.

The students are taught the fundamentals of Microeconomics as well as Macroeconomics. Topics such as the concept of supply and demand, market structures, labor markets, welfare, the impact of taxes as well as word trade will be covered. Additionally, the course will take a look at the Economics of developing countries as well as the European Union and its history.

The module provides an overview of the fundamentals of logistics in both intralogistics and transport logistics. In addition, logistics strategies and logistics networks are explained. There is also an outlook on the subject area of Logistics 4.0.

Students will learn what types of costs a business has, how costs are allocated to the product, and how investments in production equipment are valued financially with basic methods.

Understanding Marketing/Sales tools and applying them in differant areas as pricing, product definition, promotion, placement.

The students get an overview of different manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, joining, etc. Applications and advantages/disadvantages of the processes are discussed in the different areas. In addition, there is an outlook into the area of additive manufacturing processes (3D printing).

Usage and calcualtion of different machine elements like screws, springs, bearings, shaft hub connections etc.

Basics of the methodical design of technical products and systems and examples of product design processes.

Students apply further methods of investment appraisal, especially dynamic methods, and learn more about decision-oriented cost accounting methods and cost structures.

Students will learn about basic principles of machining and get an historical overview. After that they will depen their knowledge in types of machines (e.g. lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, grinding machines, CNC machines) as well as machining operations and precision measuremnt.

Students learn how to organize a meeting, moderate a group discussion on a given topic, prepare a paper according to scientific standards, and give a presentation on the topic.

Students are taught the fundamentals of the German civils and business law. Emphasis is put on how to apply it in real life examples.

Students will be familiar with the most important concepts of sustainability, apply eco-balancing approaches and get knowledge on environmental management (ISO 15001) and environmental cost accounting.

A business simulation game, where several student teams compete against each other. Every period management decision are to be taken.

The students apply basic statistical methods on real-life examples within an asychronous course.

The students are taught the fundamentals of HRM, e.g. they learn how personal planning works, how to design a training program and how to manage performance. Additionally, topics such as compensation and downsizing is brought to their attention. At the end of the course the students are taught key facts on international HRM.

In the lectures of the module "Value Creation" you will get a general overview of the organization of a production/value stream. Within the exercises, we will develop together with you all the detailed steps to set up the corresponding production/value stream based on our WI product eScooter.
