Placement German Courses
Beginners without German language skills enroll directly in Deutsch A1 kompakt.
All other students take the placement test Einstufungstest DaF - even if you already have a language certificate from any other institution then TH Rosenheim - before you enroll. Make sure to do it in German without translator to receive a valid feedback. Choose your class according to the result.
Have you already taken a German Class with us? Select the follow-up module if you passed it (well) in the previous semester. Otherwise, repeat your module.
Registration period: 16 March 26, 9am - 22 March 26, 9 am
The groups are filled by your registrations as long as seats are available. Some degree programmes have integrated German modules and priority/reserved seats.
A 50 % attendance in class is mandatory and a requirement for participation in the exam.

Is attendance mandatory?
Yes, an attendance of 50 % is mandatory in your first attempt, not in your second or third attempt.
To ensure that you acquire the necessary skills and continue to learn at the appropriate level, attendance at the interactive language modules is a requirement.
When can I register?

Where and how do I register?
You register online. Please follow the link above, see Registration German Courses. You need to be immatriculated for registration.
How are places on the courses allocated?
The groups are filled by your registrations as long as there are places available. Some degree programmes have integrated German modules and priority/reserved seats. In general, FWPM participants have priority over General Elective participants.
What should I do if my preferred module is already full?
Choose a parallel module, if offered. Check the group selection in the LC to see if a place in your desired module has become available again due to cancellations by other participants. Otherwise, please register early enough the next semester.
Is there a waiting list?
No, the modules are filled to capacity. There is no waiting list. If you do not get a place, please try again next semester.
Can I move up after course start?
If there are still places available, see Registration German Courses in the Learning Campus, you can move up in the first two weeks of teaching. The missed material must be made up independently.
Can I repeat a module voluntarily?
It is possible to repeat a module voluntarily, and it can be useful, especially if you have had little opportunity to study and practise on your own in order to consolidate what you have learnt. Your grade also provides an indication of whether it makes sense to repeat the module.
Can I repeat a module and have a better grade credited to me?
Please refer to the regulations of your degree programme for information on crediting. In some English-language degree programmes, you can take several German Courses in a row and then apply for 5-10 CP to be credited to your account. It may be useful to take a few modules and then have the most successful ones credited to your account. In other English-language degree programmes, the module is credited directly when it is taken.
Exam registration in the OSC
Your degree program will inform you whether you need to register for your German module exam in the OSC. If you are registered in the OSC, the ECTS credits and grade will be entered in the ToR (Transcript of Records) after completion of the module. If you fail, you must repeat the module and exam in the next semester.
General exam registration
By registering in the Learning Campus course room and informing your instructor that you will be taking the exam, you are eligible to take the exam. You do not need to register separately in writing. After completing the module, you will receive an elective certificate with your grade, which you can forward to the Examination Office for entry in the ToR – with or without your grade/ECTS.
How many German modules/CP can I have credited to my degree?
In most English-language degree programs, you can earn 5-10 CP credits. Please refer to the regulations for your degree program for information on credit transfer. In some English-language degree programs, e.g., ING-M, HT-M, AAI-B, and E-Commerce, you can take several German modules and then apply with your elective certificate to have 5-10 CP credits transferred. In other degree programs, e.g., AIE-M, HYT-M, IBE-B, IWT-B, credits are transferred directly via OSC-registration. Further modules can be taken as AW modules. INM-M students should check on Monday and Tuesday whether OSC registration is possible. Otherwise, recognition will be granted via elective certificates.
How many German modules / CP can I have credited to my degree programme?
In most English-language degree programmes, you can have 5-10 CP credited to you. You can obtain the latest and valid information from your degree programme.
What applies to students in the Master's in Hydrogen Technology?
For HYT-M students who started their studies before the winter semester 2024/25 (study and examination regulations June 21, 2022 + March 6, 2023 = SPO 20222), the following applies:
A valid certificate of German language proficiency at level A2 or higher in accordance with § 3 para. 3 SPO must be submitted by the time of registration for the Master's thesis. No German module can be taken as FWPM (Compulsory elective modules) during the course of study.
For HYT-M students who started their studies in the winter semester 2024/25 or later (study and examination regulations of May 7, 2024 + October 31, 2024 = SPO 20242) the following applies:
The module HTM 03 Compulsory elective modules from the subject catalog of languages and didactics with 5 ECTS must have been passed by the time you register for the Master's thesis. The German modules

count as a specialized elective module from the catalog of languages and didactics. You take a placement test, register in time and attend the module that corresponds to your level. Where can I find more Information on exams?
In the study programmes International Bachelor of Engineering (IBE) and International Bachelor of Wood Technology (IWT) the following German modules are integrated as compulsory subjects (4 academic hours / 5 CPs each).

With Deutsche Welle's mobile courses, you can practice German easily and free of charge.
Learning German is worthwhile. Here you can find out how much German you need to get by in your studies and everyday life in Germany, and where and how you can improve your German.

8. Deutschkurse bei der Universität München
For intensive German courses outside of the semester or as additional consolidation, we recommend participating in German courses at the University of Munich. In addition, recognized German exams (DSH, TestDaF) can be taken there and corresponding preparatory courses can be attended.

At the Goethe-Institut Munich, you can take certificate exams, learn German, and much more.

If you are not studying an TH Rosenheim, the regulations for guest students apply.
If you cannot make it to Rosenheim in time for the semesterstart and you would like to start learning German in preparation for your arrival, this is usually possible.
Welcome to the TH Rosenheim. We offer German courses for students during their studies. If the language level is suitable and places are available, participation in our German courses for refugees as guest students is free of charge.
