Anette Ponholzer graduated as an industrial designer from the Muthesius University in Kiel in 1995. Following her studies, she worked for Turett Collaborative Architects in New York and for wiege Wilkhahn Entwicklungsgesellschaft in Bad Münder.

In 2000, together with Fritz Frenkler, she founded the design office f/p design gmbh, based in Munich and Kyoto / Japan, where she was managing partner until 2017. f/p design is active in the fields of industrial design, user interface design, architectural design and communication design and has received over 60 design awards since its foundation, including the iF Product Design Award in gold, silver and Best of Category, the G-Mark in gold, and the German Design Award in gold. 

In 2007, Anette Ponholzer taught as a visiting professor in the interior architecture department at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences. Since the winter semester of 2017, she has been teaching at the Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences as a professor of furniture and product design in the Faculty of Interior Architecture, Architecture and Design.
