Which country is suitable for me?

Ask yourself the following questions beforehand:

  • What is the working language in the respective country? Do I have the required language skills? In addition to English, do I have basic knowledge of other languages that I would like to improve during my stay abroad?
  • Can I afford to pay for the visa, flight and cost of living in the respective country?
  • Do I need a visa for my chosen country?
  • If you have a residence permit for Germany: Please check with the immigration authorities (Ausländerbehörde) whether your planned work experience in your chosen country is possible, and take care of the visa or residence permit in the host country as early as possible.

How do I find a work experience position abroad?

Personal contacts are still the best avenue when searching for a position. For example, ask your professors about their contacts within the business community, make contact with companies, and ask German companies about their foreign branches/subsidiaries. Or ask other students who have already gained experience abroad! You can find more useful tips and links in our checklist.
