Students learn the basics and components of digital circuits that occur in embedded systems.

This module forms the first part of three project works that are based on each other. In each of the three parts a separate work objective is to be defined together with the students, which the participants then work on largely independently in small groups under the guidance of a professor.

In the assessment of the module in the form of an examination paper, the quality of the student's work performance is measured against the project goal. In the first part, assemblies are created that typically consist of hardware and software components.

Electric Measurement Technology teaches in-depth knowledge of resistor circuits and measuring bridges, operational amplifier circuits, measuring oscillators, multimeters, sensors, analogue-digital converters and digital-analogue converters, digital measurement technology, spectral analysis of periodic signals and statistics.

The students learn the concepts of object-oriented programming. After successful participation, students can independently structure, model and implement object-oriented problems.

Microcomputer Technology teaches the basic operation of a modern microcontroller architecture and its peripherals. The students develop their own hardware abstraction layer in assembler and C during the practical course in order to understand and use the configuration options and peripheral functions.

This module deals with signals and systems in the time and frequency domain against the background of continuous-time Fourier series and Fourier transforms, and the Laplace transform.

This module covers the basics of control theory for continuous control loops. This includes, among other things, the description of control loop elements, the essential dynamic properties of control loops and their analysis as well as selected controller design methods. For the implementation of the continuously designed control algorithms on a digitally operating control device, the basics of discrete control loops and the time discretisation of continuous controllers are dealt with.

Students gain skills in:

• Subject-specific basics: They determine the channel capacity of a medium using Shannon-Hartley's law and can select a good line code for this medium.
• Logical, analytical and conceptual thinking: During protocol analysis, they discover errors in a computer network.
• The selection of suitable methods: They apply a suitable CRC coding for error protection of a transmission channel.

The competence to recognise technical developments: They can assess the benefits and risks of the advancing digitalisation in the Internet-of-Things.

Modern methods of digital signal processing are taught and practically applied. Approximately one half of the module deals with the theoretical foundations of digital signal processing, one quarter with the direct application of the methods in a Matlab development environment and one quarter with the implementation on modern hardware architecture. In a project work that directly accompanies the lecture, the theory is practised and deepened.

This module forms the second part of three project works that are based on each other. In this second part, components are created that can then be integrated into the target system in the third part.

This module covers the basics for all components of a drive train with an electrical machine as energy converter. The focus is on electromagnetic machines used in industry. An introduction to important procedures for the control and regulation of electric drives will be given.

The module covers basic circuits, transistor circuits, and oscillators and circuit technology for digital circuits.

During the internship, students carry out engineering-related activities based on concrete tasks in an industrial environment. The intership can be completed in a company in Germany or abroad.

The course serves to learn the basics of technical-scientific documentation as well as to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse application possibilities of presentation techniques. The students present with extended media competence. The students further develop their own speaking and performance skills with the aim of presenting confidently.

Introduction to Business Management

The course serves to learn the basics of project management, with a focus on the application in projects.

In the assessment of the module in the form of an examination paper, the quality of the student's work performance is measured against the project goal. In this final part, the components created so far are integrated into a target system

In this module, modern methods for the development of electronic control units are taught and practically applied. Approx. one third of the module deals with the electronic hardware of control units, one third with software development. The rest of the module covers additional relevant topics such as project management, specifications, development environment, version management, and operating systems. In the practical course, the methods from the lecture are applied to an example project chosen by the student.

Introduction to the theory and practice of the application of electromagnetic wave fields. The students learn methods for the description and calculation of passive and active components for use in modern electronic assemblies in high-frequency technology.

Within the framework of a practical course, students apply numerical procedures for the description of wave fields and develop simple active and passive RF circuits. These are analysed metrologically and verified with regard to their properties.

At the end of the module, students are able to calculate power converter circuits with diodes and thyristors, DC chopper circuits and converter circuits according to specification, dimension the components and analyse simple circuits metrologically. The students can analyse the circuits using modern circuit simulators as models.

Students learn the appropriate methods, procedures and tools for developing software. The focus is on the development of object-oriented software in a team using agile methods. The students learn to formulate user stories, to make use cases and requirements in a team, to model the architecture according to quality criteria, and to implement, test and deliver the software.

With the Bachelor's thesis, students demonstrate the ability to independently work on the given problem according to scientific methods within the given time limit.

Modern methods of message transmission are taught and practically applied. Approx. one half of the module deals with the theoretical basics of message transmission, one quarter with the direct application of the methods in a Matlab development environment and one quarter with the implementation as Software Defined Radios. In a project work accompanying the lecture, the theory is directly practised and deepened.

 Introduction to Machine Learning, starting with simple linear and logistic models for regression and classification. Once the basics regarding the evaluation of models, over- and underfitting, regularisation as well as data pre-processing and partitioning are understood, students learn about more complex models and their advantages and disadvantages.
